Battle at the Beau
October 16-18, 2022

But Did You Die?

First of all, thank you to everyone who attended our inaugural Fairway Social Club event in Biloxi, MS! Our sincerest apologies for taking this long to get out the event recap information. You might not know this about us but we both read at 3rd grade level and can’t write so good!

Jokes aside, we have been diligently working on improving the registration process, event structure & format, and website updates for a better experience to share results and pictures with all of you!  We sincerely appreciate your honest feedback and patience.

We believe our ‘23 trips will be better than any tournament we’ve ever organized and hope you get some of your buddies and find a trip that scratches you where you itch!

On to the recap!

The Beau Rivage trip did not kick off as we had expected! We called an audible at the last minute, canceled our flights and decided to road-trip it up to Biloxi in Perritt’s SUV on Friday night to ensure all of the swag bags, trophies and golf clubs made it to the event without any issues.

We made it as far as Bushnell, FL when our best laid plans began to unravel.

A quick pit stop at the gas station to replenish snacks and beverages for the

long haul was in order. I grabbed some more provisions out of the back of

our over packed whip and hit the automatic truck close button. As we sped

away from that sketchy-as-hell Citgo heading northbound on I-75, we

quickly realized our tailgate never closed!

My laptop bag fell out of the truck, and we spent the next 2 hrs tracking my bag with my find my iPhone app. Our adventures took us to Walmart, back to the gas station, and finally to a lovely rent by the hour motel.  It was only after one of the residents of the motel threatened to “whoop my ass” for trying to get my laptop back we made the best decision of the night and got the hell out of dodge!

We arrived in Gulf port early Saturday morning, caught 4 hrs of sleep and then hit the airport to pick up the degenerates who wanted to kick off the weekend early with more golf!

We gambled and golfed our way around Shell Landings. Fun times were had! Dinner at Fields Steak & Oyster bar was amazing and is a must if you are ever back in Biloxi!

The majority of our group flew/drove/hitch hiked to Biloxi to play a practice round at Fallen Oak. The number 1 rated track in Mississippi, Fallen Oak was an experience I’ll never forget! Definitely one of the nicest courses I’ve ever played. It’s going to be hard to go back to my home course of Buffalo Creek and play again!

The Battle at the Beau tournament began with our opening reception at the Beau Rivage Sunday evening.

The Battle at the Beau tournament began with our opening reception at the Beau Rivage Sunday evening.

Drinks, waiting, more drinks and more waiting ensued! Steven Chadwell successfully kicked off our event with the “Eat from the bowl of potato salad from the buffet” ceremony! The Beau outdid itself on the low country boil! It was great to hear that many of you thought they knocked the Buffett out of the park! Dave Taylor just kept shouting, “Shrimp…..Steelers”! We believe this meant he was happy that his team had won, and the shrimp was very appetizing.

After dinner and providing the custom swag bags to each team, everyone headed to

their rooms to get a good night’s rest to be fresh and ready for our 9am shotgun start

at Shell Landing!

The official Battle at the Beau tournament was underway Monday morning under a

blanket of fog at Shell Landing!

We had a great turnout with a mostly solid group of guys! I’m not naming names…but never turn your back on your whiteclaw if Ben Golden is nearby…..it’s gonna get shotgunned!

4 teams of 12 competing for a team title, individual title and daily skins!  The 4 teams were:

The shotgun kings captained by Eric Barnhart consisting of Jason “Greens” Bennett, Dan “the man” Walters, Courtney “Shooter” McLaughlin, Jonathan “The Champ” Clapp, Ben “Whiteclaw” Golden, Steven “Cobra Snake” Chadwell, Roger “Scratch” Lahr, Kyle “the Man” Adkins, Mike “Longball” Looper, Iain “Party Hardy” Stephenson, and Adam “Ace” Smejkal

Weapons of Grass Destruction captained by “Saint” Nick Campbell consisting of Steve “Spider” Webb, Kevin “Iceman” Walek, Steve “Bomber” Persche, Brad “Baller” Suetholz, Tim “No relation

to Charlie” Ward, Bob “the Ledgend” Buthod, Yoge “The Bear” Bharat, Joe “Warning Track Power” Jianetti, “Stone Cold” Jeff Austin, Thomas “Long“Baugh, and Bob “The Hammer” Andrews.

PreQuads captained by David “Pretty Bird” Perritt consisting of Rich “Squid” Averill, Jayson “The Phillie” Werth, Todd “the Stick” Stires, Joey “Stache” De Stefano, Daniel “No Relation to” Letbetter, Anthony “The Bull” Mattera, Matt “Street Justice” Almedia, Nick “Truck Stop” Margison, Todd “Sexual White Chocolate” Van Meer, Shaun “Eagle” Owens, and last but not least Daniel “Papi Chulo” Friedman

Over Achievers captained by Dave “2nd best Golfer” Taylor consisting of Rich “Double Down” Randolph, Eric “The Mayor” Howell, Kyle “Big Blind” Julius, Todd “Helicopter” Weitekamp, Kevin “Go” Lough, Bobby “What did you” Seay, Rick “Tugg” Taugner, Dereck “Bring out the” Gimpel, Tyler “Sluuuuuuuuu” Sluman, Cody “Fore Right” Neer, and Jim “The Mitten” Paquette

Shell landing was challenging with the wind kicking up and, in your face, seemingly on all of the toughest holes. After the round the shrimp boil was uncomfortably spicy but it hit the spot! The E9 that ensued might have been the highlight of the day! Eric Howell made things “Verrrryyyyyy Interesting!” by ensuring the competitors were well hydrated to battle in the emergency 9! Unfortunately, the high Mississippi humidity and worn golf pride’s were too much for Todd Weitekamp and his 7 iron was the unintended casualty.

Bob Buthod went low with an even par 72 followed by Jonathan Clapp’s 73 and some very solid scores from: Nick Campbell (74), Matt Almedia (76) Dave Taylor (76), Anthony Mattera (77), Kevin Lough (77), Bobby Seay (77), and Rick Taugner (78).

Later that evening we were fortunate to enjoy a dinner and a show when the head of Mary Mahoney’s treated us with a world class comedy routine and some damn good steaks, old fashions, and wine!  After dinner the house at the Beau never had a chance against us!

On Tuesday morning we awoke to a frost warning as we kicked off our final day of the tourney at Fallen Oak. It was cold, windy, and the greens were hard as rocks, that didn’t deter Jonathan Clapp as he proceeded to put and absolute beat down on Fallen oak and ended up posting an even round of 72!

The course played tough, but it was an amazing track and I can’t wait to get back up there again!  Some great rounds were posted by: Bob Buthod (76), Athony Mattera (76), Tyler Sluman (76), and Todd Stires with a 79!

The awards luncheon followed Tuesday’s round and after all of the one’s were carried and scores triple checked the overall winner was, Jonathan Clapp and the winning team was the Weapons of grass destruction captained by Nick Campbell!  The overall winner was able to take home some nice neck jewelry and the winning team were presented with a custom alligator headcover from Dormie Golf!

Last but not least, the most improved golfer received the golden ball retriever award and a bottle of Bourbon!  The award went to the distinguished Mr. Todd Stires! Congrats my friend!
